Coffee is one of the worlds favorite drinks. Coffee is served in many forms and it can either be hot or cold. Coffee is known to be beneficial to health in some ways. Coffee can bring people together for a meeting or can be used as a morning drink to help get the day started. Coffee houses have been around for a long time, but they were once banned in England. During the middle ages in 1675 the then King of England had coffee houses banned because he was afraid that people were meeting in coffee houses to conspire against him.
Coffee grows on trees that can be thirty feet tall. Over time coffee trees have been cultivated to a much more convenient ten feet in height.
There is a legend that Ethiopian shepherds first became attracted to the effects of caffeine by watching goats. It seems the goats appeared to be friskier and “dance” every time they ate coffee berries. The rest is history.
When the first African tribes started using coffee, it wasn’t brewed, it was eaten. African used coffee for it’s energy providing benefits. They developed a way to mix coffee berries with fat to produce energy balls which when eaten would give them that extra boost they were looking for.
A certain religion had a lot to do with the rise in popularity of coffee. Islam prohibited the drinking of alcohol, but coffee was considered an acceptable drink. As a result, the popularity of coffee spread to what ever regions of the world Islam spread to.
