Everyone likes fruit. A good banana or a sweet strawberry will go good with just about anything. Our fruit prices go up and down depending on the seasons, or other factors. Sometimes we think we’re paying to much for those bananas or strawberries. But no matter how much you pay for your fruit, there are these fruits that cost way more.
The “Densuke Watermelon” is a black skinned stripe less watermelon reported to have a special type of sweetness found in no other fruit. If you live in Japan, you can buy one of these delicious watermelons for just $121. They are grown exclusively in Japan on the northernmost island of Hokkiado and only 100 of the melons are farmed each year. In 2008 one of these sold for $6,100 at auction.
Japan seems to be the place to go for expensive fruit. When you visit Japan, you can buy a $21 “Sekai-ichi Apple”. These special apples are washed with honey and branded by hand to insure they’re blemish free. Better hurry to get yours before they’re all gone.
Well we have an expensive watermelon and apple, why not an expensive melon? You must travel once again to Japan to enjoy the “Yubari King Melons”. Plan to spend $225 for two of these special melons that once sold for hugely higher prices and were once considered the most expensive fruit in the world.
Coming back to New Orleans for a dish called “Strawberries Arnaud” which is of course made from strawberries that are garnished with a 4.7 carat pink diamond ring. You can enjoy the whole thing for just $1.4 million. That’s right $1.4 million for a bowl of strawberries and a diamond ring.
Well, after seeing what some people pay for fruit it doesn’t seem so bad what we often pay here.
